Second Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima (June 13, 1917)

On June 13th, the Church honors two important events: the second apparition of Our Lady of Fatima and the feast day of the great St. Anthony of Padua.

Second Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima On June 13th 1917, accompanied by about 50 people, Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were reciting the rosary. Witnesses say that just before Lucia began to speak with Our Lady, the sun dimmed and then the sky became cloudless. Immediately after the children saw a flash of light similar to lightning, Our Lady appeared on the holmoak tree like in May. “What do you want from me?” asked Lucia. Our Lady replied, “I wish you all to come here the 13th Fatima Children Jacinta, Lucia and Franciscoof next month; that you all say the Rosary every day, and that you learn to read. Afterwards, I will tell you what else I want.” “I would like to ask you to bring us to Heaven”, said Lucia. “Yes, Jacinta and Francisco I will take soon, but you must stay here for a long time. Jesus wants you to serve Him in order to make Me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. I promise salvation to those who embrace it, and their souls will be loved by God as flowers placed by Me to adorn His throne.”

Lucia asked: “Will I stay here alone”? “No my daughter. Are you afraid? Don’t be discouraged, I will never abandon you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.” The instant Our Lady said those last words, for the second time, she opened her hands and emanated her light on the children. Jacinta and Francisco seemed to be in the light that went up toward the sky, Lucia in the light that spread on the earth. In front of the palm of the right hand of Our Lady, there was a heart surrounded by thorns that were piercing it. The children understood that it was the Immaculate Heart of Mary pierced from the sins of humanity, and that She wanted reparation. Then, Our Lady, resplendent with light, began to rise above them by the luminous path her incomparable brilliance seemed to open in the sky until she disappeared.
